Dalian (ins implified Chinese 大连) is one of the cities located in China’s Liaoning Province. It is a coastal city, which is also the province’s second largest city. Dalian is located at northeast China. Being prosperous, it is one of China’s main external doors to the outside world.
At the end of 2007, the city’s resident population was 6,080,000. Besides, the total household population was 5,782,000 people, representing a net increase of 61,000 people compared with the value in the fist half year of 2007. Among the population, the non-agricultural population was 3,368,000 people, accounting for 58.3%. On the other hand, the agricultural population was of 2,414,000 people, accounting for 41.7%. The immigrated population of the city in 2007 was about 84,000 people, while the emigrated population was of 33,000 people. In 2007, the born population was 40,000 people and the birth rate was 6.95 ‰. The mortality rate was 5.30 ‰ and the natural population growth rate was 1.65 ‰.
In 2008, Dalian realized its goal of achieving 385.82 billion yuan of GDP. Since 1992, the city has achieved double-digit growth for continuously 17 years. The per capita GDP of the city was 63,198 yuan. According to the average exchange rate year-on-year, it was about 9099 U.S. dollars.
Dalian’s main industries include machinery manufacturing, petrochemical, oil refining and electronics. In Dalin, there are 17 enterprises which are respectively leading companies in the shipbuilding, the internal combustion engine, refined oil and the bearing area in China. At the same time, Dalian is going to become an important center of the IT and software in China. Moreover, financial services and other services would also become more and more important industries in Dalian.
Actually, Dalian is one of China’s 14 coastal open cities. Dalian has become one of China’s most open cities. Among the world’s top 500 enterprises, 89 had branches in Dalian. On the other hand, Dalian is also a hub of shipping and international logistics center, making it become one of the first four biggest coastal open cities in China.
