Dalian Port (in simplified Chinese 大连港) is located at the southern tip of Liaodong Peninsula in Liaoning Province which is also the eastern gateway of import and export in Northeast China and Inner Mongolia. It is also an important bridge linking North China, Central China, East China together in terms of water and land transportation.

By the end of 1995, Dalian port has a total land area of eight square kilometers. On the other hand, the waters area is about 346 square km. There are 65 berths, with a length of 11,981 meters, making up a maximum berthing capacity of 100,000 tons. The Treasury market area of this Port is 13,640,000 square meters.

In 1995, Dalian Port completed 641.68 million tons of cargo throughput, of which Foreign Trade occupied 31,180,000 tons, and there were 3.74 million container TEU in the Port.  In the port, there are a lot of products being transported, including oil, grain, metal ores, iron and steel, coal and other bulky products.

At present, the Dalian Port has already established very good relationship with ports in Kitakyushu, Japan, Hong Kong, Fushiki Toyama, Yokohama, the United States, Auckland, Houston, Vancouver, Russia, as well as that in Shenzhen. Through different kinds of cooperation, it is believed that Dalian Port would become a very important port in China in one day.

Actually, as mentioned above, Dalian Port authority has a very ambitious goal. They had set some targets for the port to achieve in the foreseeable future. For example, it has determined to establish another pier in the Port in the coming years in order to increase the cargo capacity of this port. Moreover, it has decided to set up a more efficient fuel base so that ships could get a better backup when they visit the harbor.
